A huge thank you to our pals at Heavy Seas, Crooked Crab, and Key Brewing, for inviting us to take part in this year’s “Hopped” competition. Think of “Chopped”, but replace the ingredients with those you might find in beer. This year, the box featured Calypso hops, vanilla, sumac, and Cara-Vienna malt. Our brewers figured those flavors would best come together in this Belgian-Style Golden Ale – bringing the spicy notes from the sumac to the forefront along with the phenolic character from the Belgian yeast strain used to ferment the beer. The vanilla balances everything out, while the malt and hops provide the necessary bready backbone with a hint of bitterness. Make sure you visit each brewery to pick your favorite!
