Indians of the area, primarily Wyandot (Huron) were said to refer to what is known as the Sandusky River and the Bay, as Saundustee, meaning "water"Legend tells of a "boat guy" who would sometimes visit the area, boosting the spirits of the native people, trading his medicines for pelts, fish, and maize.
