Undercurrants starts with our Direct Currant mead; black currant juice and Mexican orange blossom honey. This mead was aged in a very special malt whiskey barrel from Distillery 291. As far as we know, this is the ONLY malt whiskey that Distillery 291 has ever made. We aged Undercurrants for four months, developing a heavy dose of barrel flavor. In addition, the oak barrel aging has taken the edge off black currant's acidity. We added just a little Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans for a touch of creamy flavor. There is no hiding the bold flavors contained in this mead, and why would you? Sink into the Undercurrants.
