Fortuity is a single barrel, majority barleywine blend aged in Thomas H Handy Rye barrels for 18 months, then Cabernet barrels for 11 months. Collaboration with Erosion Winery.After aging two barrels of barleywine for 18 months in Thomas H Handy Rye barrels, we transferred both into freshly-emptied cabernet barrels from our friends at Erosion Winery. One of the two barrels had experienced a moderate amount of loss to Angel's Share (evaporation), so in addition to a small addition of Imperial Stout we decided to add in 8 gallons of our Belgian-style quadruple with raspberries and cherries, in an effort to double-down on the fruit flavors we anticipated from the wine barrel.11 months later, the flavors from the wine and berries melded into the beer and ended up providing the perfect counterpoint to the oaky tannin, rich caramel, and spicy rye. We decided to release this single barrel untreated and unblended to showcase our good fortune.
