Hefeweizen (hefe = yeast, weizen = wheat) is a cloudy pale golden beer with 50% malted Wheat and 50% malted Barley. It shows a very bubble-tight white head and high carbonation with lots of lacing. The main aromas are of German wheat yeast (specifically clove and banana). Flavors are predominantly of banana and spicy cinnamon with a sweet light cereal and bready intermediate note. It lends a slight acid aftertaste due to the wheat but it also has a residual sweetness from the pale malt. Some hop flavor and bitterness balance out the malt and yeast character. It has medium mouthfeel related to the proteins of wheat and yeast present.
