Godine 1646. u manje od dva mjeseca izgrađene su tvrđave sv. Ivan i Barone za obranu od Osmanlija tijekom Kandijskog rata. U kolovozu u rujnu slijedeće godine, pretrpivši jedan od najžešćih napada u svojoj povijesti, Šibenik se uspješno obranio.-----------In 1646, in less than 2 months, there were constructed two fortresses, St. John's and Barone for a successful defence from Ottomans during the War of Candia. Next year in August on Septermber Šibenik has suffered one of the greatest attacks, but still defended itself successfully.
