This Rauchbier, a German style smoked malt lager, was brewed for Investor Brett who thought it would be a cool idea to make a beer with malts smoked using Jamwood, a type of tree found in his native WA. And cool it was! Since smoked malts in beer are normally cold-smoked, and Jamwood malt isn't exactly available off the shelf, we had to engage our local smoker to build a custom rig to handle the job. For a touch of sweetness we combined the Jamwood malt with some Manuka-smoked malt in a 50:50 blend. Copper brown in appearance, a smoked ham aroma combined with a smooth mouthfeel and a slightly jammy smoked-malt flavour, make this a truly unique Recon Series brew.
