Endless Blackberry has become one of my favorite meads, the dark berries and honey is just such a magical combination…. and this barrel treatment has taken the jamminess & thickness from a 10, to a 12… it's phenomenal!Yes, it skipped over 11 :DOne could argue this was also double barrel aged, but it was only inside one barrel, and yet this blackberry brandy barrel just happened to also be filled with a whole barrel’s surface worth of new French Oak!I was torn between using a new French Oak barrel and a spirit barrel for this mead, and opted for the best of both worlds.The blackberry brandy barrel provided, more blackberry flavor but not much oak, as it started life as a wine barrel until there wasn’t much oak left. So I got incredible French Oak cubes to put into the barrel, which were custom toasted to enhance the body with a creamy mouthfeel, enhanced structure, and add both berry and vanilla flavors. The result was better than I could have possibly hoped for! Expect to see this custom toasted French Oak in a lot of future endless berry meads!
