Our Old Swede Juniper Berry Hyssop Gruit aged in a Hidden River Gin Barrel from Manatawny Still Works for over four months.Swedes were among the early settlers to the area, and just across the river, built what is now the oldest house and trading post in Berks County. They were also known to make Juniper Beers, perhaps right here in the neighborhood over 300 years ago. We took a page from their old book, and brewed a Juniper Hyssop Gruit, and old-style beer that used various herbs for flavor before the widespread use of hops. We used hand-crushed Juniper Berries and dried Hyssop to create a uniquely crafted beverage inspired by those early settlers of our region.
