For our Orange Affogato edition, we left out the licorice and white ash and instead let it soak up sweet orange peel and espresso. The aroma of this ready-for-battle Imperial Porter hints at the luxury to come; hints of orange zest and coffee tinge the nostrils, but it isn't until you take a sip and let it swash across your palate that you get the full affogato effect. Flavors coat your tongue, first with the obvious whiskey barrel aging, but quickly morph into a delectable balance of sweet orange marmalade chunks, bright orange oil, and rich espresso dripping over vanilla bean ice cream. Not overly sweet like a pastry stout, this balanced yet dessert-focused Imperial Porter is more complex and drinkable than your favorite breakfast aisle stout.
