In 1809, at the age of 16, Sam Houston was adopted by Chief Oolooteka and given the name ko-la-nv pronounced co-lo-neh or the “Raven.” He developed a deep, life-long affection for the tribe and considered the tsi-tsa-la-gi pronounced chi-cha-la-gee, or Cherokee, his surrogate family. As a tribute to Sam Houston, the first president of the Republic of Texas and the brewery owners own Cherokee heritage, this classic style presents a pleasing light fruity nose, rich toffee and toasty malt that finishes smooth.
