Weird though not a derogatory term—but if you’re not into spicy stuff (or how subtle spice can enhance the overall sensory/representation of a beer), this might not be your bag. We took our baseline “The Black Book” Imperial Stout (3x mash / 9hr boil) and added chipotles and Carolina reapers (my mouth is watering as I write this) for a burst of heat, but then also a dash of cinnamon, vanilla beans and cocoa nibs to attempt (!) to round it out. Spicy burnt black pepper and a vanilla/cinnamon hit are complemented by a molasses/brown sugar vibe that makes this the ultimate evening sipper. If you’re into the spicy stuff, that is.
