At the end of July we welcomed the awesome guys from Moot Brew Co over to whitstable to whip up a big old beer with us on one of the hottest days of the year!We both share a huge appreciation for old school West Coast IPAs and so we knew we wanted to brew something in that vein but a little different, and so after some deliberation we decided to have a crack at the new clear IPA style coming from the Pacific Northwest of the US.The result is ‘Frat Buoys’, a Double Dry Hopped Double Bright India Pale Ale coming in at 8% abv.We used a well structured but stripped back pale malt base to lay the foundation for a very hefty hop profile.Hot side we added Citra 702, Simcoe 702, Amarillo and UK Jester before letting rip with a classic west coast yeast. We then added two substantial doses of Amarillo CGX, HBC 630, Idaho 7 and UK Jester on the cold side.The culmination is a vibrant beer that pours a bright gold with a dense foam white top. On the nose you are hit with easy peeler oranges, grapefruit and potent dank notes. On the tongue, a medley of flavours from fresh vibrant citrus, resinous spruce tips, subtle honey-like sweetness with a pithy bitterness to finish.It’s a one raucous brew!
