Inspired by something truly timeless - the A.W.W. Duck Cake - this Collab beer between Aunty Jacks of Ballarat and Noodledoof of Koroit is a sweet stout brewed to showcase the hallmarks of the childhood cult classic. Brewed using a variety of specialty malts and rolled oats, sweetened with lactose, then spiced with Vanilla, Cacao, Green Coffee beans and some all-important popcorn, liquorice and crinkle cut chips (the beak!)When is a stout not a stout, better yet when is a ‘white stout’ not a ‘white stout’?? Well, when this beer was conceived it was with the Duck Cake in mind, so a little poetic license has led to the beer pouring a soft glow of caramel, much like the caramel popcorn that sits atop the duck like a crown!The slight haze is reminiscent of the butter cream the bird is slathered in (we used no real butter cream in the beer only conceptually). Notes of cocoa, biscuit, cake and caramel are what first greet you in the aroma. These are courtesy of the white-stout mentality of using cacoa nibs, coffee beans and vanilla to replace the dark roasted malts as well as the generous use of rolled oats and some chewy cara maltsAn ample addition of lactose helps bolster the body and full mouthfeel, whilst not leaving the beer to overtly sweet. The slight spice on the back palette comes thanks to the blonde coffee beans and subtle use of liquorice to tie the brew together.Savour it with fond memories of birthdays past, or better yet stick it all in your cake hole at once!
