One of the beautiful things about the smoky phenol in such beers is that it acts as a preservative, and often, these beers age far better than an equivalent beer that is not smoked. It’s lovely how the smoke character in this porter marries itself like a glove to the cocoa and caramel with a nuanced tobacco and leather notes. The finish is rich cream and milk chocolate with the lasting hint of pipe smoke. Slightly sweet, satiny, nuanced; a wonderful accompaniment to the slowly cooling autumn.
