Traditional Scottish ales are malt focused beers that are full bodied yet lowish in alcohol. The are somewhat similar to English ales, but with lower hopping rates and colder fermentation temperatures, leading to less fruitiness from the yeast and possessing a more lager-like character. Stronger than Light and Heavy Scottish ales, but weaker than Wee Heavy ales, Export strength ales are somewhat in the middle when it comes to strength. It's a pretty confusing strength tier system if you ask us!
