Tartan Moggie is a historic 80 Shilling ale based on a 1930's recipe from an Edinburgh brewery that has long since closed. Its rich character derives from heirloom Maris Otter barley malt and an extra long boil. This richness is balanced with a generous amount of UK hops as was common in shillings of this era.This ale was brewed in collaboration with Henry from the Cat Asylum Brewery, who made the journey up to Scotland from Nottinghamshire. Meanwhile, his old school pal – beer historian Ron Pattinson - provided the recipe that we based the brew on.
