For each new varietal born out of the Hop Breeding Company's rigorous program, the path to market is unlikely at best. Just a small percentage of new hops find their way to Elite Trials (as in HBC 586) and fewer still make it to market with a new name. We can only hope that HBC 586 moves on and receives the attention and acreage it deserves. It’s an absolutely wonderful hop and one with that lends an extremely rare impression of completeness and balance in a single-hop beer. Passionfruit, lemon/lime, mango, honeydew all contribute to a perceived sweetness with an herbal note tying it all together.
