[JUMP TO RECIPE]On a breezy afternoon last autumn, wrapped up in my coziest sweater and watching the leaves dance, I began to muse about some of my favorite winter beverages. Winter fruits, spices, and honey all come to mind, and the falling colors conjure fond memories of bright blushing cranberries and juicy Cara Cara orange… But first, I’d be remiss not to tell a meandering story of what the season means to me, with probably a tidbit about recapturing a flavor memory from my childhood, and definitely a mention of sitting by a fire. Anyway, what were we talking about?-------------------------Makes: 1 Gal (8 servings)Start by making five pints of beer with a neutral pilsner malt, some malted white wheat, and ¼ cup of lemon blossom honey infused in the boil. Use a natural lactobacillus culture to achieve a pleasant tartness, then add six cups of fresh orange juice and two cups of fresh cranberry puree. Once the fruit has fully fermented and lent its flavor, strain out all the fruit solids and infuse half of a Madagascar vanilla bean to achieve just a hint of vanilla flavor to complement the fruit. Serve chilled.
