This beer style was born in Trappist monasteries and is now brewed worldwide. Its brewing process, during which special malts and caramelized sugar are added, gives this style its unique touch. It also requires Trappist yeast and aging. Flavors and aromas exhibit some moderate alcohol warming, raisins, nuts and sweet dark cherries.
