Epochal x Newbarns Wee Heavy.Expanding upon the work Gareth does at @epochalbrewery in Glasgow, we decided to collaborate on a historic Scottish recipe for a Twelve-Guinea Ale from Fowler’s brewery in Prestonpans, East Lothian from the year 1862. This beer, which became the archetype for the Wee Heavy style, was brewed with 100% Scottish Extra Pale malt, mashed incredibly thick, with a short boil, and heavily hopped to ensure historical accuracy. Dark amber in colour, rich with flavours of treacle, and with a distinct lasting bitterness, this is one of the most distinct and ridiculous beers either brewery has produced.
