Описание

Gose is an ancient German beer style. Its name is derived from the river Gose flowing close to the German city of Leipzig. First mentions originate from the songs of keiser Otto II., the ruler of Germany in 983–1002, venerating the unique taste of a wheat beer from the mining town of Goslar. This beer is interesting in several of its ingredients. As most of the medieval beers, it is fermented by a mix of brewer's yeast and lactobacillus bacteria, imitating the way of spontaneous fermentation, known long before the discovery of microorganisms and sanitation. It is also brewed out of slightly salty mineral water reminding of the waters from the town of Goslar influenced by its mineral soils. An extraordinary effect of this water and the sourness from the spontaneous fermentation is balanced out by the addition of coriander and a low amount of hops. In aroma, you can smell fresh spices resembling Belgian Witbier. After a sip, the taste starts with a mild mineral flavor of pink Himalayan salt we used and the tender sweetness of the wheat malt. The finish is lithely sour, with hints of coriander, and very refreshing. A curiosity is that this is the only beer that, as a historical speciality, was permitted an exception from Reinheotsgebot law of the beer purity, valid for all other German beers since 1516 commanding using of only four basic ingredients in brewing: water, malt, hops and yeast.
