Imagine a well-worn forest path when the summer sun hits the bark of the pine trees, vaporizing the delicious and volatile terpenes in the sap, sending out almost visible waves of a rich, earthy pine scent. In Astoria, we’re never far from the forest - we have to go into and out of it to go anywhere - and neither is James, the head brewer from Black Tide in Japan. His favorite Fort George Beer is Magnanimous, a Winter Seasonal Grand Fir Tip IPA. So when James and the crew from Black Tide were in town celebrating another collaboration project last month, the brewers decided to put that same tree magic into another beer, this time with a load of modern, fruity hops to balance the deep, earthy pine resin character of the Grand Fir Tips.
