The fire is raised on a high pole and lit by the men of the band. Thus fire can be seen from a far, symbolizing that the household welcomes the Children of Jānis (merry guests on the summer solstice night). Guests bring joy and blessings to the household. Pine spruce and smoked malts help to recreate the smoky bonfire atmosphere of the shortest night.
